Ascona, Switzerland – On the shores of Lake Maggiore, within the historic setting of the Ticino Canton, lies Ascona, a town spanning 5.0 km² with a population of 5,515 residents. This magnificent town embodies Swiss traditions at every corner: mountains, lake, baroque architecture, a blend of art and culture all gathered in one picturesque location. Bordering Piedmont and Lombardy through its lake, “Lago Maggiore,” Ascona is a prime destination for tourists seeking stunning views and a warm, sunny climate.
The third edition of the Red Arrow will be hosted here, with the grand start scheduled for Friday, 31 May at 08:00 on the lakeside promenade. Following this spectacular beginning, the caravan will hasten towards the northern Alps, navigating a route designed for the most enthusiastic participants. Armed with roadbooks and odometers, participants from across Europe will traverse the Swiss roads, testing their navigational skills as was done in the past.
The route includes timed trials where precision is the core challenge, and stamp stops at renowned locations. This is an experience that must be lived to be fully appreciated.
After two days of travelling through the Alps, the caravan will return to Ascona, where the Popular Library of Ascona will come alive at 11:00, announcing the winners of these three days of navigation. The winning teams of the 1000 Miglia Warm Up Switzerland 2024 will thus be revealed to the public.
“Ascona is the perfect place for a grand start and a grand prize-giving in true 1000 Miglia style, where the historical and cultural heritage of this town is central,” stated Paolo Pedersoli, CEO of Scuderia Classiche, the company leading the event. “The 1000 Miglia Warm Up Switzerland is not just about competitiveness, but also about history and culture, warmly embraced by a town that epitomises the values we wish to convey.”
“True marvels of technique and beauty, vintage cars evoke an elegant lifestyle, the pleasures associated with leisure time of yesteryear, and simultaneously a culture of work executed with absolute passion and craftsmanship,” declared the Ascona-Locarno Tourist Board. “It is the same dedication and attention to detail that has characterised the hospitality of Ascona and the Locarno region for over a century. A place of art, culture, and holiday charm, Ascona warmly welcomes the ‘most beautiful race in the world,’ the 1000 Miglia Warm Up Switzerland.”
1000 Miglia Warm Up Switzerland and Ascona-Locarno invite all enthusiasts of art, culture, and cars to gather along the key points of the route. Join us to capture the best shots of these historical pieces and experience an unforgettable adventure immersed in the beauty and tradition of the Swiss Alps.
