THE CARS & THE JURY.

The Process

Our jury reviews each entry beforehand, studying the history and provenance of the cars assigned to their group. On concours day, those cars are staged on the field at the heart of Lugano and judged by the M100, a hundred-point system built for events like these.

The Classes

The field is divided into five classes. Five follow the eras of the motorcar, from the pre-war classics of the 1930s to the modern machines of today.

The Jury

We host selected judges from across the globe. Most of them with connections to the most respected concours in the world: Pebble Beach, Villa d’Este, Amelia Island.

To open the discipline to the next generation, a Junior Judge joins each team: a young talent chosen alongside the Centro Professionale Tecnico in Biasca, here in Canton Ticino, standing beside the finest eyes and seeing the field as a judge does.

The 2027 jury is still taking shape, and will be revealed closer to the weekend.

Chief Judge

Ken Gross

Former Director, Petersen Automotive Museum

Ken Gross served as Executive Director of the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. A 35-year Chief Class Judge and Selection Committee member at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, and Chief Judge of the Greenwich Concours, he judges at leading concours across North America and Europe.

Max Bontempi

Vice-President, Mille Miglia Club

Vice-President of the Mille Miglia Club and advisor to the Committee of Experts of the 1000 Miglia Register, Max Bontempi is an authority on the insurance valuation of classic cars. Born in Brescia, he has built his career around historic motoring as a consultant, entrepreneur and presenter at international events.

Nic Waller

President, Audrain Automobile Museum

Nic Waller is President of the Audrain Automobile Museum, the Audrain Newport Concours and Audrain Motorsport. A fixture of American and European concours since 2006, he is widely recognised across the classic-car world in the USA, Europe and the UK.

Paolo Mazzetti

Founding Director, Mille Miglia Museum

The first Director of the Mille Miglia Museum in Brescia and, since 2012, Director of Publishing and Historical Services at 1000 Miglia Srl, Paolo Mazzetti chairs the Management Committee of the 1000 Miglia Register and is Secretary of its Selection Committee. He is the author of the official 1000 Miglia books.

Paul Loveridge

FIVA Technical Administrator, United Kingdom

As Technical Administrator for the United Kingdom at FIVA, the Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens, Paul Loveridge oversees the standards governing FIVA Identity Cards, which certify the authenticity and history of a classic car internationally. His presence ensures every car at Lugano Elegance is assessed to the highest standard.

Roberto Bernasconi

Certified FIVA scrutineer, 25 years

Roberto Bernasconi has turned a lifelong passion into an international career spanning more than 25 years. A certified FIVA scrutineer, he assesses and documents historic vehicles across Europe. His approach pairs technical rigour with cultural sensitivity: for Bernasconi, every car is a testament to identity, substance and history, to be preserved and recounted with precision.

Robot Judge

A world first, developed by ATED

In 2026, Lugano Elegance became the first concours d’elegance in the world to seat a robot judge, developed by ATED, a groundbreaking new perspective on automotive excellence.

Chris Kramer

Appraiser and collection advisor, Villa d'Este selection committee

With over 30 years in the automotive industry and some 25 as a vintage-car consultant, Chris Kramer works as an appraiser and collection advisor. A member of the Selection Committee for the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, he judges at major concours worldwide and has launched a mentoring programme for the next generation of concours judges.

Paul Sable

Automotive historian, Chief Judge at 87 events

An automotive historian, writer and collector, Paul Sable is a well-known concours judge who has served as Chief or Honorary Chief Judge at 87 events across a 30-year career, including many years at Pebble Beach, Amelia and Hilton Head. He now works to bring more young adults into concours judging.

Allan Winn

Vice-President, Brooklands Museum

A Vice-President of Brooklands Museum in Weybridge after a 30-year career in engineering and transport journalism, Allan Winn has judged concours d’élégance worldwide, including 15 years at Pebble Beach, and has been a competitor and official in vintage motorsport for over 50 years.

Former VP of Global Design, General Motors

Ex VP Global Design, General Motors
Ed Welburn è stato Vice President of Global Design di General Motors. Laureato all’Howard University College of Fine Arts, è stato inserito nell’Automotive Hall of Fame e nella Corvette Hall of Fame, ha ricevuto diversi Lifetime Achievement Awards ed è vincitore di un Emmy.

Ex Responsabile Tradizione, Bugatti
Storico indipendente e consulente automobilistico, Julius Kruta è diventato Responsabile della Tradizione di Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. nel 2003. Giudice abituale nei principali concorsi in Europa e negli Stati Uniti, collabora con numerosi eventi europei e siede nel comitato di selezione di Pebble Beach.

Ex Responsabile Design, FCA, Presidente della Giuria a Villa d’Este
Chief Design Officer di Fiat Chrysler Automobiles e membro del Group Executive Council dal 2007 al 2016, Lorenzo Ramaciotti ha guidato il design di oltre sessanta vetture. A member of the Selection Committee for the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and the event’s announcer, Martin Button contributes to its many publications, sits on the Steering Committee of the Hampton Court Concours, and officiates at concours worldwide.

Vice Chairman of The Amelia Concours d’Elegance and the Greenwich Concours d’Elegance, Matt Orendac has spent over three decades in the collector-car world across insurance, events and judging, involved in events from Art in Motion at Monticello to the Manhattan Concours, Radnor Hunt and the Concours of America.

Over a career spanning more than two decades, Max Girardo has compèred and judged at the most prestigious automotive events, including the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, the Amelia Island Concours, Salon Privé and Chantilly Arts & Elegance.

Global Brand Ambassador for Hagerty, Nigel Matthews has spent the last 20 years judging at more than 149 concours worldwide, including Pebble Beach every year since 2005 and the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, with events across ten other countries.
